PRESS RELEASE

Algeria Investment Promotion Mission to Japan
November 9 – 12, 2015

Algeria has long been recognized as a major hydrocarbon producer (oil and gas) in North Africa. As stressed in the national five-year plan starting in 2015, it is now strategically making a move to diversify its industrial structure. The Government of Algeria has taken a series of measures to establish the necessary framework to attract foreign investors into the country. Japan is also its target in this respect. UNIDO ITPO Tokyo, an Advisor in Algeria to assist Japanese companies with their business interests, has been cooperating with respective stakeholders, including ANDI (National Investment Development Agency) to further strengthen economic cooperation between Japan and Algeria. The Algeria Business Seminar will be held in Tokyo on the occasion of the visit of the mission to provide the country’s up-to-date business climate and highlight investment opportunities in key sectors, presented by government and business representatives, including Mr. Abdelkrim Mansouri, General Manager of ANDI.

Key messages

  1. Algeria boasts a stable economy and growing domestic demand for goods and services.
  2. Algeria is aiming to transform its industrial structure from a “resource rich” to “manufacturing based”.
  3. The growth rate targeted by the government is 9% (2015-2019).
  4. Key sectors inviting Japanese businesses include agri-food, automotive, electrical and household appliances, pharmaceuticals and health care, ship construction and repair, etc.
