The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) ITPO Tokyo Office, in cooperation with the Government of Japan, is implementing the ‘Industrial Vocational Training Programme in Africa and Asia through Technology Transfer from Japan.’ The programme aims to contribute to sustainable industrial development by equipping local engineers and technicians in Africa and Asia with knowledge and skills related to the technologies of Japanese companies. For more information about the project, please visit official programme page.
In Morocco, this programme has been implemented in cooperation OFPPT (Office de la Formation Professionnelle et de la Promotion du Travail), the first public vocational training institution in Morocco that offers more than 90% of the public vocational training in the country. In April 2024, Ms. Lamiaa Illoul, an environmental engineer and instructor, Mr. Hicham Raji, a hydraulic engineer and instructor from OFPPT were invited to Japan to participate in training on wastewater treatment technology organized by Hinode Sangyo. After returning to Morocco, they became instructors who transferred the technology they had learned in Japan, conducting training in five cities for local engineers, teachers, and students at vocational training schools. Morocco has been facing serious water shortages in recent years and is working to develop infrastructure for water resources.
There is a high demand for knowledge about wastewater treatment technology, with more than 100 people applying to participate in the training. In addition to teachers and students from vocational training schools, employees from private companies, the National Office for Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE), the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, and local government officials also participated in the training, gaining knowledge about Japanese wastewater treatment technology.
