Morocco Aerospace Seminar [Tokyo]

Jointly with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco and Japan Morocco Association, UNIDO ITPO Tokyo organized “Morocco Aerospace Seminar” in Tokyo on Thursday, November 29, 2018.

The Kingdom of Morocco accelerates industrialization anchored by developing investment environment for foreign private sectors. The seminar was held for introducing business opportunities and the latest trends of the Moroccan aerospace industry centering on the “Midparc” which is a free industrial zone for the aerospace industry, located right next to the main airport in Casablanca, as well as Boeing Ecosystem in Morocco.

First, opening remarks was made by H.E. Mr. Mohammed Rachad Bouhlal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Japan. He underscored that Japan is the largest foreign employer in Morocco, utilizing abundant young engineers trained with support by the government.

Next, Mr. Ali Seddiki, Director of Aerospace Industry, Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy, explained about the geographical advantage in northwest Africa adjacent to European and U.S. markets and the development strategy of aerospace industry in Morocco.

Mr. Mohamed Aref Hassani, Managing Director, Midparc Casablanca Free Zone, introduced that Casablanca is the economic hub of the country and suitable location for human resources from major universities and engineering schools. Additionally, he mentioned Midparc Business Model, such as tax incentives, capital investment, and free professional training tailored to each company’s specific needs.

In addition, Mr. John T. Maxwell, 787 Supply Chain Operations, Environmental Control Systems of Boeing, made a presentation about Boing Eco-System in Morocco. He presented that a partnership with the Government of Morocco has been reinforced under the MOU and they’ve been working on building a strong supply chain.

Then Mr. Daisuke Mizuno, Former Head of JETRO Rabat Office, explained about the business environment in Morocco where security level and the quality of infrastructure is high, and about 60 Japanese companies are running business.

Finally, closing remarks was made by Mr. Yuko Yasunaga, Head, UNIDO ITPO Tokyo. He reiterated the aerospace market is expanding globally and it is attractive that the Government of Morocco leads this industry in the country.

The event attracted over 50 participants from 31 companies/organizations.
