Event Report: Factory visit in Cote d'Ivoire, on the margins of “The Third Japan Africa Public-Private Economic Forum”

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo and UNIDO Côte d’Ivoire jointly organized a site tour (factory visit), in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Côte d’Ivoire and Investment Promotion Centre in Côte d’Ivoire (CEPICI), for Japanese companies who participated in “The Third Japan Africa Public-Private Economic Forum.” on 17th December 2024 in Abidjan.

33 participants from Japan, South Africa, France, Kenya, the UAE, and other countries participated in the tour and visited a flour mill of Les Moulins de Côte d’Ivoire (LMCI), a subsidiary company of the AVOS Group. The AVOS Group is the poultry industry leader in West Africa and an Ivorian champion. Its operations include poultry farming, flour processing, and fast food, with the goal of building a leading agri-food group in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The participants arrived at LMCI by 2 buses and were welcomed by Mr. Emmanuel TRA Bi, Director General of Industry of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Côte d’Ivoire; Ms. Johanne ACKAH, Secretary General of AVOS Group; Mr. Lambert Achkah, Director General of LMCI; and H.E. Mr. Désiré Wulfran Gbolié IPO, Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire in Japan. After the ceremony, the participants visited the flour mill.

Both during and after the factory visit, a wide range of questions, such as mechanisation, wages, the role of the government, food self-sufficiency rate, monetary union, energy, export destinations, and hygiene management, were asked by the participants. It was followed by a networking session in which all attendees engaged in lively exchanges.
