UNIDO joins Austrian National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka to promote innovation and inclusive industrial development

Osaka, 23 May 2025 — At Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable and inclusive industrial development, showcasing innovative solutions that support global economic progress.
Yuko Yasunaga, UNIDO Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director of the Directorate of Corporate Services and Operations, attended a number of events marking the Austrian National Day held at the Expo 2025 in Osaka, where he also had exchanges with the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, as well as other high-level officials and private sector from Austria and Japan.
“UNIDO has taken a leading role for innovation by progress ensuring inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Solutions do exist, we just need to come together and take action to turn them into reality as we drive progress through innovation to achieve the 2030 Agenda,” highlighted Yasunaga.
The Austrian National Day focused on the connection between innovation, business and culture for a future with a high standard of living. The event was attended by Deputy Governor of Osaka Nobuhiko Yamaguchi, Commissioner General to Expo 2025 Koji Haneda, Vice-President of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce Philipp Gady, Austrian Minister of Economy, Tourism and Energy Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, Commissioner General for Austria at Expo 2025 Ursula Plassnik, and more than 150 private companies.
UNIDO was also present at the Austrian Pavilion at Expo 2025 through a video highlighting its Solutions Platform. This tool connects Member States, academia, and industry with scalable solutions that align with UNIDO’s mission and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A World Expo brings together people and innovations from around the world to address global challenges facing humanity. The Expo 2025 Osaka takes place from 13 April to 13 October 2025, with participation from over 160 countries, regions, and international organizations. The event is organized under the main theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” aligned with the SDGs and Japan’s national strategy Society 5.0 vision, highlighting solutions for a better and more sustainable future.
